Helping Others in the Brave New World
(The following was drafted in response to recent discussion on a now-closed Hypertiger topic, but I think it stands alone. Any/all feedback is appreciated.)
What will you be doing on the Other Side? It's a given at GIM that most people 'out there' are not interested in Truth, especially abstract Truth that requires effort. The vehement reaction to any distinction between "cherished delusions" (HT's term) and moral or factual absolutes is sufficient evidence of that. I don't pretend to have any knowledge of Truth, but think Truth seekers who visit forums like this ought to pick up constructive tidbits that can help our communities during and after a crisis, assuming that others are ready eventually to listen and act. How can we help others in the Brave New World? Hypertiger, you must have some thoughts in this regard. You are not an absolute fatalist/nihilist, as you continue to post on this forum despite attacks. You are a member of a community. You think some will survive. I think you'll agree that most of today's jobs in Western nations are essentially meaningless, to be snuffed out with their currency of payment. They don't make a better world, and generally worsen it for some. This should 'correct' somewhat as global imbalances unwind. I wonder if there will be opportunities to leverage one's usefulness or productive potential in the process. Can a drone be saved? Id appreciate any thoughts, in the spirit of cherished delusion destruction. |
Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
I wish I could sit down with HyperTiger at the Phoenix Club for a few (or several) beers and some brats. I'd like to get his views and direct answers on assorted survival-related subjects without having to use a keyboard to do so.
And I mean that sincerely... http://thephoenixclub.com/ |
Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
The standard response is, and always has been, "feed the hungry!" It is one of those feel good activities that doesn't do much if anything to help anybody, except if it helps you feel good about yourself. You put food in the mouth of starving sheeple, they turn it into poop, babies, and ask for seconds. Then they become angry and aggressive when you run out of handouts. The sheeple need to learn to take care of themselves, it would be more effective to sell them the tools and seeds to do so. Yes, I do mean sell, because those who want the resources for free are just looking for another handout whereas anyone who can come up with payment has implicitly shown at least a little innate resourcefulness which means they are more likely to have the prerequisites to be productive and make something of what you give them.
If you really want to do something useful, take care of your family and have a sustainable lifestyle. Everyone who does this will survive. Everyone who does not will either perish, or provide the broodstock for our next generation of parasites. I own land and I will continue aquiring more surrounding land till I reach some point I feel is adequate. I will cultivate my land, improve it defensively and I will maintain a semblance of law, order and peace on my land. If others want to live a lawful life in relative safety on my lands they are welcome to do so as long as they are productive and I will ask for only small affordable contributions for the use of an allotment of my land wich will be put towards commons such as infrastructure, stores for hard times and defense. In this manner I will establish a fortified, sustainable hamlet so we can all live a better life. If anybody doesn't like the rules that's fine, they are free to get off my land. I will also not allow criminal gangs or other similar organizations to get a foothold in the surrounding area as they obviously pose an imminent threat to the peace and prosperity of my hamlet. I will offer the protection of my security forces to those lawful and goodhearted people living around my territory, again for a small and easily shouldered contribution. In this way a small agrarian community can grow into a nation and rekindle the light of civilization. |
Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
Call me cruel, but I think Darwin has been been deprived of his due for way too long. The plain fact is that half the drones walking around should have expired long before reaching their current age. I'm not going to help them to continue in their quest to flaunt the laws of nature and common sense.

Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
Thanks for the replies. My questions don't really get to the heart of what I'm looking for. 'If at first you don't succeed, rephrase, rephrase again.'
The banking-based economy is like a cancer that robs society of its ability to sustain itself. Banks are empire killers. In the worst case future scenario, the domestic financial system collapses and we're left with oodles of people who have nothing to do but roam the countryside in search of things to eat and steal. If food is the most important thing, can you produce enough for yourself and your loved ones for a period of years, and can you protect it from all the people who will come looking for it? Most certainly can't. Looking further, the priority of government will be to ensure continuity of government. Sheeple don't understand this, but we do. The government is going to become the greatest looter of all. The successful looter is the one who gets and keeps the loot. Expect seizure and policing of cropland and water supply. Expect heavy-handed measures of crowd control. We're seeing plans and speeches that advocate everything from civilian labor camps to 'demand destruction' in order to keep lineups manageable. Wars thin herds. It's not difficult to anticipate which jobs will be in demand. The oil patch will be protected. Farming will be heavily policed. Using Iraq for a case study, there would appear to be a long term bull market for private security personnel. My question at this point is, if you entertain this kind of possible future, where would you like to be in it? REV127's plan is clear, but I'm curious to hear others. |
Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
There is already an urban-suburban gardening group in my area that I hope to assist in getting most households at least partially food self-sufficient if things get really grim.
I am studying about and designing my own versions of roof water collection and storage and use of solar energy for basics like cooking, hot water, water purification, and heat. Low cost, low tech retrofits are what I am most interested in. Permaculture yards that produce most of the food a family needs can be designed on average size suburban lots. I hope things do not get that bad, but if they do, having most of the food and water one needs if the infrastructure is out of service would be something many households would need some help learning. |

Re: Helping Others in the Brave New World
The only one that can take care of you is you....... I for one am ready at this time to survive with no outside help for four years and the means to survive for fifty more.......if I last that long.
Sometimes you must do what you don't want in order to survive ...... like the Jews in the Germans camps that served as guards over other Jews and in some cases used to beat the hell out of them. "To be ready is not"... Ponce |
